WE’VE CUT MACHINING TIME BY ALMOST 75% USING OUR CLIMAX CIRCULAR MILL

With over 1400 wind tower sections being manufactured & machined in North America, it was important to find a way to control costs while meeting demanding specifications. Climax partnered with Hitachi Canadian Industries to provide a Circular Mill that would machine out-of-spec flanges ranging in diameter from 10- to 14-feet (3.1 – 4.3 m) to a surface flatness of 0.002 inches (0.051 mm) and could create a 60 rms micro finish (exceeding the current requirements of the wind industry) – right on the assembly line. The modular design of the machine allows it to be disassembled and stored when not in use, and reassembled & moved into position with a traveling overhead crane within 60 minutes when needed. Climax also conducting training for HCI machinists on the machine.

 

The Result? Machining time was cut by up to 75% over the previous method, and extremely tight tolerances were achieved on flanges up to 16 feet (4.9 m) in diameter.
