11 Sep Application Spotlight: Onsite Pressure Vessel Machining
Destec Engineering Ltd., based in Lincoln, United Kingdom, utilized the CLIMAX FF5300 Flange Facer and H&S TOOL AFC CLAMSHELL machine to execute precise onsite machining work on a pressure vessel located in a European chemical plant. The job involved roughing out a 200 mm (7.8 in.) long reducing angle using the clamshell pipe cutter, followed by grinding to achieve a fine finish. Additionally, they turned the outside diameter to 100 mm (3.9 in.) in length to match the new pipework diameter. A bore-mounted flange facing machine was used to form a weld prep on the spigot’s end. Both machines were operated simultaneously to minimize downtime and expedite the project.
The CLIMAX FF5300 Flange Facer sets a new standard in compact flange facing. Its modular design and interchangeable turning arm allow for flexibility, with facing diameters ranging from 5.7 to 40 inches (144.8 to 1016 mm). Despite its powerful performance, it remains easy to set up and operate, offering superior results for valve, pipe, and pump flange facing, beveling, and turning. With a compact swing diameter and a minimum clearance of just 22.75 inches (577.9 mm), it is ideal for confined spaces. Learn more about the FF5300 Flange Facer.
